Celebration – Composers 80 is a concert series for the 2025 anniversary year of the the Society of Finnish Composers, in which anyone can participate by submitting a concert that meets the criteria of the series. To celebrate the anniversary, we want to highlight the close cooperation between composers and performers of new Finnish music, on which we are building our artistic music heritage and future together.
How to get involved?
To apply for the Juhlat concert series, please fill in the online application form. To be included in the series, the concerts must
- take place between 1.6.-31.12.2025
- Have 100% of the programme composed by members of the Association of Finnish Composers, including historical members
- feature music by at least one living member of the Finnish Composers’ Association
- You can also apply with a concert that celebrates the jubilee year of the the Society of Finnish Composers in an otherwise insightful way and that features the music of at least one living member of the Finnish Composers’ Society. The programme of such a concert is in keeping with the spirit of the celebration, the programme highlights Finnish composers in a significant way, and the inclusion of music composed by non-members of the Finnish Composers’ Society is justified in the context of the theme. For these concerts, the Association’s jubilee committee will decide whether the conditions for the concert series are met.
What is offered for the concerts in the series?
The Society of Finnish Composers will compile the concerts of the series into a a shared public calendar of events and will promote the series through the various communication channels of the Finnish Composers.
The concerts of the series will be provided with a uniform marketing look, including the Celebration – Composers 80 stamp, ready-made picture frame templates for social media marketing and texts related to the concert series.
Who can participate?
All concert organisers and musicians! Concerts can represent different levels of music life, from the highest professionals to the ambitious amateurs, including educational institutions with their youngest musicians and singers. Without you, the celebratory year of Composers would be very quiet!
Take note!
- The current membership of the Society of Finnish Composers consists of some 240 composers – you can find also some new acquaintances for your concert programmes from there!
- Information on current and past members of the Finnish Composers’ Association is available on the Association’s website and from the office.
- Music Finland’s sheet music service Core can help you to obtain performance materials. Fennica Gehrman, Sulasol and Edition Wilhelm Hansen AS are among the publishers of music by Finnish composers whose catalogues we encourage you to consult.
- We encourage regionality in programming: this is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to the music of a composer from your orchestra, choir or ensemble’s home region.
- We also encourage including the composers featured in the concert with the marketing and outreach of the concerts in various ways!
- One event organiser can participate in the Celebration year with one concert. If you have several good concerts in your programme, choose one that you want to promote in collaboration with the Finnish Composers.
- The Celebration series does not offer grants or subsidies for concerts. You can and should mention your intention to apply for the series and the Finnish Composers’ celebratory year in any grant applications to other organisations.
Timetable of the celebrations
We are open for applications for the series from 3 September 2024 until 31 October 2025, as a continuous application period. Applicants will be informed of the decisions in the following schedule:
- If you fill in the form by 31.10.2024, you will be informed of your participation and receive the communication materials by 30.11.2024.
- If you fill in the form between 1 November 2024 and 31 January 2025, you will be informed of your participation during February 2025.
- After 31 January 2025, applications will be processed within three weeks of completing the form.
