La Cappella Composition Award

La Cappella, Uppsala, Sweden

The women’s choir La Cappella celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2026. To mark this jubilee year, the choir is announcing a Nordic composition competition to expand the repertoire for women’s choirs.

The competition is open to composers who are citizens or residents of any of the Nordic countries. No age limit applies.

  • Instrumentation: Women’s choir a cappella (SSAA, 4-8 parts), or alternatively women’s choir and
accordion. The piece may include solo vocal passages, but the choir should have a prominent
    role.
  • Duration: 3–6 minutes
  • Text: Free choice of theme, but the text must be in a Nordic language, English, or Latin. The
composer must have permission to use any text included in the composition.
  • Newly written work: Submissions must not have been previously performed, published, or entered in another competition.

The prize sum of 5,000 euros wil be distributed among one or more prize winners at the jury’s
discretion. The winning work will be premiered by La Cappella at the award ceremony on June 13,
2026 and performed again at the choir’s jubilee concert on November 7, 2026. The winning piece will also be published by Gehrmans Musikförlag.

Competition entries must be submitted digitally in PDF format along with a MIDI file or audio file. The
assessment is anonymous – the score must not contain any information revealing the composer’s
identity.

Deadline for submission: March 15, 2026 at 23:59 CET
