3rd International Lieder Composition Competition ”Friedrich Schiller”

The Trieste Schiller Association is organising the third International Friedrich Schiller Competition ”Premio Raffaello de Banfield 2026”, dedicated to song compositions for voice and piano. The competition is open to composers of all nationalities who have not yet reached the age of 36 on 30 April 2026 (born after 1 May 1990).

The selection is based on the composition of two pieces:

• a song for voice and piano on the provided text by Friedrich Schiller in German. The text by Schiller to be set to music for the 2026 edition must be selected – in whole or in part – from
  Amalia.
• a composition for voice and piano on a free text of the participant’s choice, whereby the language does not have to be German.

Prizes:

• € 1,500 and publication of the winning composition to a text by F. Schiller specified in this competition
• € 800 for the best composition to a freely chosen text
• € 500 from the Ananian Trieste Foundation for the best composition by a candidate who fulfils the legal requirements (Italian citizenship and residence in Friuli Venezia Giulia for more than five years).
